Media Release – Madison County Democrats weigh in on Reopening Alabama, Urge Caution and Common Sense.

Huntsville, AL, April 28, 2020 — The Madison County Democratic Party urged caution and common sense in Gov. Kay Ivey’s announcement today that the state would approach an economic reopening in a phased manner. The expectation that a spike in cases and deaths will be experienced as more citizens return to work seemed anticipated in the announcement.

“I applaud the Governor on this phase of reopening the state, and appreciate that the approach is cautionary and based upon doctors and scientific data,” said Rep. Anthony Daniels, chair, Madison County Democratic Executive Committee. The Governor and her Task Force committed to watch the curves and take action accordingly.

Given the highly transmissible nature of the COVID-19 virus, and the long-term effects it can leave with its survivors, the Democrats are urging everyone to protect themselves, their families and friends vigilantly, with masks, hygienic habits, and especially by taking the governor’s “safer at home” declaration to heart. The Madison County Democrats believe in the equality of all people, the power of education, the dignity of work, and our responsibility to each other, especially the least of these. We promote and support progressive ideals and candidates throughout our communities.
