JFK Scholarship
Madison County Democratic Women was founded in 1961 to support the ideals articulated by President John F. Kennedy. The centerpiece of our work is the annual JFK scholarship, awarded to a college bound high school student who intends to pursue a career in the fields of law, government, public policy or politics. Scholarships will be awarded at the annual JFK Scholarship Awards banquet on Thursday, May 5, 2016. The winner will be announced prior to the banquet and is expected to attend the banquet to receive the award. The 2016 JFK Scholarship will be an award in the amount of $1000. Please answer the following scholarship question with an original essay. Your essay response should offer a strong, cohesive argument for forming the basis of your opinion and provide appropriate scholarly citations to defend your conclusions. Essays will be scored based on the following criteria: 1) quality of response to the question, 2) depth of personal introspection, 3) originality of thought, and 4) attention to grammar and writing mechanics. Please limit essays to between 1500 and 2000 words. Essays should be written in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, 1 inch margins. Please use the application form page as your essay cover sheet. Include your name on the cover sheet. Do not include your name on the essay pages of your submission. All submissions will receive a blind review. Applications are due by midnight April 4, 2016. Applications not received by the deadline will not be reviewed.
